Tech-enabled provider of peer support services to deliver critical care to the 94% of American adults with a substance use disorder are not receiving treatment

Marigold Health, the tech-enabled peer recovery innovator, today announced the close of an $11 million Series A fundraise. The round was led by Rock Health and Innospark Ventures with additional investment from the Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA), Wavemaker360, Stand Together Ventures Lab, Epsilon Health Investors, Koa Labs, VNS Health Plan and KdT Ventures. Marigold is addressing a national shortage of SUD care by expanding access to high-quality peer support. Their proprietary peer support program combines one-on-one coaching from a certified peer specialist with 24/7 access to text-based support groups in the Marigold app, which is integrated with natural language processing that flags health needs expressed in chats and triggers additional support when needed.

The new funding comes after Marigold achieved significant milestones with seed funding in communities hit hardest by the Opioid Crisis. From 2020-22, Marigold conducted a pilot with a major managed Medicaid organization in Delaware and quickly grew to become the state’s largest provider of peer recovery supports. An outcomes analysis of 1000 Marigold app signups found that 98% reported improvement in at least 1 dimension of Recovery Capital, a clinically validated metric that measures an individual’s ability to maintain long-term recovery.

The Series A will allow Marigold to meet a national demand for more engaging SUD supports – their program is currently available to 25,000 members in Delaware, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts and Marigold is expecting to expand to at least 4 additional states by the end of next year.

Historically, most investment in SUD care has focused on the small minority of people already receiving and open to treatment” said Shrenik Jain, Founder and CEO of Marigold Health. “Generally, this treatment isn’t very effective – peer support is the unspoken reality on how most people finally get better. We’re creating a safe place for our members to empower each other and get the best out of a broken system.”

The company is currently prioritizing partnerships with Medicaid and duals health plans covering medically complex or vulnerable populations, some of who have joined this round. Marigold expects to continue its strategy of implementing a value-based reimbursement model for peer support, ensuring that improved member outcomes lead to less total healthcare expenses.

Aman Shah, VP of New Ventures at VNS Health, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit home healthcare organizations, and integrated Medicaid-Medicare health plan explains, “We made the decision to invest after seeing how Marigold engaged and reduced costs for members with SUD at other health plans. Marigold’s unique approach combines traditional peer support services with technology that is highly complementary to existing programs that engage individuals with substance use disorders.”

Arvin Grover, General Partner at Digital Health Venture Partners, added “Marigold can wrap around any existing treatment program to consistently engage members and demonstrate real world results.”

Investors were also compelled by Marigold’s technology platform – the company leverages proprietary natural language processing (NLP) to upskill peer specialists, ensure online interactions are constructive, and inform the efforts of other treatment providers.

Marigold’s team has a unique vision that involves investing heavily in their served communities and scaling the impact of their efforts through AI.” said Andy Palmer of Koa Labs.

Mark Legare of Innospark Ventures, a VC fund focused on AI, highlighted that Marigold’s platform is valuable to many stakeholders. “Marigold has built innovative technology grounded in direct feedback from health plans, providers, and peers to drive scalable impact.

Marigold has achieved impressive milestones due to a combination of community partnerships, innovative technology, and a commitment to real-world outcomes.” said Bill Evans, Founder and General Partner at Rock Health. “We are excited to support their next phase of growth.

In addition to expanding their covered population, Marigold expects to grow its peer workforce and continue to develop their NLP. The Company’s longer-term vision is to build a nationally distributed peer delivery model that can support a range of chronic conditions beyond SUD.

AI capabilities in Oracle APEX enable users who don’t know SQL to execute a vector search in less than two minutes

Oracle today announced new AI innovations in the latest release of the Oracle APEX low-code development platform. The new APEX AI Assistant simplifies application development and helps developers quickly build feature-rich, mission-critical applications at scale. Developers now can create applications by using natural language prompts to specify desired capabilities and components and automatically generate SQL statements, perform one-click debug correction, eliminate the need to remember table names, and easily add an out-of-the-box conversational interface to their applications. Oracle APEX is a fully supported, no-cost feature of Oracle Database and all Oracle Database services including Oracle Autonomous Database that developers can try for free here.

By replacing complex traditional coding, Oracle APEX’s declarative development approach enables developers to build and deploy mission-critical enterprise applications 20X faster with 100X less code. With over 21 million applications built, Oracle APEX is the platform of choice for over 850,000 developers in organizations across industries worldwide.

“As a developer and someone who writes SQL every day, I know how challenging it can be to remember table names, column names, and syntax I don’t frequently use. Having an AI assistant to determine column names contextually, JOINS, and generate complex syntax is a real game changer,” said Mike Hichwa, senior vice president, software development, Oracle. “Best of all, I can use plain natural language, such as ‘show me all pink T-shirts in size large left over from the most recent shipments to our Kansas City and Wichita locations’ and the APEX AI Assistant will automate that for me, and show me the precise results.”

Trailcon offers trailer fleet solutions 24/7, managing 30,000+ assets across North America. It built its Trailcon 360 application using Oracle APEX with OCI Document Understanding. The application provides customers with real-time analytics on geo-location, telematics, preventative maintenance, and other key indicators, as well as the ability to download and integrate invoices seamlessly to replace manual processes.

“We can process over 3,000 invoices every month with an 87% accuracy rate. Oracle APEX and OCI enables the IT Solutions team at Trailcon to continue to be agile and keep providing the data services our customers can rely on,” said Giovanni Cani, vice president, IT delivery, Trailcon. “This is far simpler than other low-code solutions, and we’re excited to find out what the upcoming versions of Oracle APEX will bring, specifically around AI capabilities and process optimization.”

“Natcorp provides HR management solutions to more than 600,000 users in Brazil. The combination of APEX and AI is a huge time-saver for our customers—they can simply ask questions in the APEX app and get answers in seconds,” said Igor Sala Cardoso, head of technology and innovation, Natcorp. “This allows HR teams to focus on their core competencies, like their recruitment strategy, while reducing operational costs with AI.”

Oracle APEX is included in Oracle Database and all Oracle Database services including Oracle Autonomous Database, delivering extreme application performance, as well as industry-hardened security, availability, and scalability. For example, when used in conjunction with AI Vector Search in Oracle Database 23ai, Oracle APEX offers a way for developers to combine semantic search for documents, images, and other unstructured data with searches on private business data.

“There’s low code and there’s low code done right,” said Ron Westfall, research director, The Futurum Group. “With the latest introduction of APEX 24.1, Oracle has deftly demonstrated how GenAI can enable developers to create hardened, mission-critical applications with ease. Coming off a series of consecutive innovations and strategic announcements—such as Oracle Database 23ai and Oracle Database@Google Cloud—APEX 24.1 continues to demonstrate Oracle’s open and collaborative approach to clouds and application development.”

New AI enhancements in Oracle APEX include:

  • APEX AI Assistant: Enables the creation of valid SQL statements from a natural language user prompt. APEX AI Assistant remembers SQL syntax, so developers don’t have to and automates the writing of SQL queries. It explains existing code and suggests code bug fixes that can be adopted with a simple click, freeing developers from routine coding tasks.
  • Create App Assistant: Enables the creation of new application blueprints from a natural language user prompt that specifies desired attributes and capabilities. This simplifies the development of new applications and allows developers to focus their energy and resources on creating unique, bespoke application features rather than underlying code.
  • Conversational AI dialogs: Enables end-users to “converse” with their applications in natural language through an out-of-the-box conversational interface that developers can easily add to their applications. As a result, developers can provide a richer in-app experience without the need to build generative AI or natural language processing components from scratch.

The new version of Oracle APEX is available to use today and will be demonstrated at the APEX Conference at ODTUG Kscope24 from July 14 – 18 in Nashville, TN.

In what seems to be a controversial move, Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ: META) is reportedly set to use social media posts from Europe to train its Llama large language models. In an interview with ReutersMeta’s top policy executive said that the company uses public Facebook and Instagram posts to train its Llama models, while excluding private posts and messages shared only with friends.

Also noteworthy, is a CNBC report that claims an investment firm called IFiAI that uses IBM’s Watsonx to help make projections about the short-term directions of stocks, has predicted big upside in Meta Platforms in the coming month. One of the new announcements already shared this month, is the plan for Meta to introduce free AI chatbots on its popular WhatsApp messenger platform.

“They need to find a way to show investors with some degree of conviction that there is a there there,” said Mark Shmulik, an analyst for Bernstein. “An AI-powered chatbot inside of business messaging feels like a great place to deploy it. You might be able to find product market fit sooner than you will on smart glasses.”

Google parent Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL) launched a flurry of announcements in May that demonstrated the tech giant’s ambitions to beef up its AI search and chatbot options. Google’s latest innovations include the addition of Flash to its Gemini 1.5 AI model family, designed to be faster and more cost-effective. Another breakthrough is Project Astra, a prototype capable of conversing with users about anything their smartphone camera captures in real time. Additionally, Google has introduced search results organized under AI-generated headlines.

“This is a moment of growth and opportunity,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, when asked if the AI updates could risk Google’s profitable business.

Additionally, Google is introducing AI Overviews to all U.S. users for its search function this week, following extensive public testing since last year’s I/O event. This feature leverages generative AI to compile information and address more complex queries that lack straightforward answers on the web.

“The AI Overviews launch reception this week will be an indicator of how well Google can adapt its Search product to meet the demands of the generative AI era,” said Jacob Bourne, analyst of eMarketer. “To maintain its competitive edge and satisfy investors, Google will need to focus on translating its AI innovations into profitable products and services at scale.”

After an outcry regarding privacy concerns, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) recently backtracked on a plan to have its new AI-powered PCs utilize a “Recall” feature that would capture and store screenshots of users’ desktop activities. Moving on from the controversy, it appears Microsoft is now considering a big new software bundle plan to monetize AI features in its popular productivity software suite Microsoft 365, according to sources as reported by Business Insider.

Meanwhile, the market is paying close attention to an ongoing investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding a deal with AI startup Inflection. The FTC is investigating whether Microsoft’s investment in Inflection should have been classified as an acquisition that the company failed to disclose to the government, according to a source reported by CNN.

“Our agreements with Inflection gave us the opportunity to recruit individuals at Inflection AI and build a team capable of accelerating Microsoft Copilot, while enabling Inflection to continue pursuing its independent business and ambition as an AI studio,” said a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to CNN, adding that the company is “confident” it has complied with its reporting obligations.

For eCommerce and data center giant Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), its subsidiary Amazon CloudWatch recently announced the general availability of natural language query generation powered by generative AI for Logs Insights and Metrics Insights. This feature allows users to effortlessly create queries within the context of their logs and metrics data using plain language. By streamlining the query generation process, it enables the user to quickly derive insights from observability data without requiring deep knowledge of the query language.

Deployed in highly demanding industries, such as Automotive, LOCI 2.0 features are compatible with the highest-quality processes for critical safety software projects.

LOCI is equipped with Aurora Labs LCLM, a Large Code Language model, that analyzes software artifacts and transforms complicated information into meaningful insights. Unlike existing Large Language Models, LOCI 2.0 tokenizers are more productive and efficient because they are x1000 smaller and have reinvented the vocabulary and pipeline training using only 6 GPUs. LOCI trained on real-time tracing of different systems-on-chip, starting in early 2017, and created billions of ASM tokens. LOCI has been trained on more than 5 billion lines of code in various languages, such as C and C++. The advanced model has an error prediction mechanism to ensure maximum model quality.

The cutting-edge AI Advisor brings transformative capabilities to software development. LOCI predicts the impact of project branching on software behavior, compares integration efforts of different pull requests, and detects dead code while providing evidence of SW behavior deviations for root-cause analysis, even without access to the source code. LOCI identifies cloned code across multiple repositories, creating a clear view of current and older systems for maintenance. This helps developers and testers understand system functionality and dependencies.

LOCI identifies the parts of the code that have changed to simplify the software update file creation and installation, ensuring seamless software updates. These features empower developers, testers, and IT managers to enhance software reliability, quality, and performance of over-the-air (OTA) updates. LOCI 2.0 creates software binary images and delta files for updates, improving system stability and compatibility, reducing data size, extending storage life, and minimizing device downtime for software updates. LOCI assists with recommendations for the risk management of SW updates by providing predictive insights into compatibility and performance degradation issues when introducing new and updated code or images.

The LOCI Advisor Engineer brings attention to deviations in the running software that are invaluable to intrusion detection systems. Suspicious software activity creates deviations in the software behavior that LOCI identifies using a behavioral software protection signature while continuously monitoring the software during the lifecycle of the project.

“Aurora Labs started this journey seven years ago, using natural language processing (NLP) to understand machine codes. We’ve reached a significant milestone by incorporating a transformer model, adding proprietary layers, and reinventing tokenizers and vocabulary. This sets the stage for a future where software engineering goes beyond traditional limits, improving capabilities and smoothly integrating with the latest technologies to boost software quality and reliability,” said Zohar Fox, CEO of Aurora Labs.

Netskope One platform raises the bar on security efficacy by enabling organizations to categorize data security risks across tens of thousands of apps faster and more granularly

Netskope, a leader in Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), today announced groundbreaking SaaS security enhancements to Netskope One, its cloud-native platform that offers converged security and networking services to enable SASE and zero trust transformation. These new enhancements advance the platform’s already industry-leading Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) module with additional features designed for the era of Generative AI (genAI) and SaaS collaboration. Netskope One natively integrates SSPM, inline, and API CASB functionalities together with a suite of AI capabilities, enabling organizations to get the most out of SaaS applications while proactively protecting sensitive data, whenever and wherever it travels.

SaaS apps are the backbone of productive enterprise business operations and require the most granular risk visibility possible—especially as genAI app adoption skyrockets. Netskope’s 2024 Cloud and Threat Report found that enterprise employees interact with an average of between 11-33 cloud apps per month and saw genAI app usage increase by 400% year over year. The increased reliance on these apps, and their more consistent usage, is putting a significant strain on legacy CASB solutions, which tend to rely on manually-intensive approaches for identifying applications and classifying their specific risks. Furthermore, many of these outdated tools are more difficult and complicated to manage and fail to provide the deeper intelligence and richer context needed to consistently discover and take action on current and emerging data security risks.

As a natively converged platform, Netskope One helps teams reduce security gaps, address new risks, reduce cost and complexity, increase protection, and accelerate everything to everywhere. In addition to being the industry’s first SSE leader to leverage genAI in SaaS security, Netskope also leverages the platform’s advanced, context-driven data loss prevention (DLP), and provides an easy-to-manage solution that delivers the industry’s:

  • First genAI-powered CASB, which employs precise genAI algorithms for automatic risk scoring of new and previously unseen SaaS apps, on-demand risk categorization for novel SaaS applications identified by security teams, and LLM-driven risk insights for SaaS applications, simply available via natural language queries
  • Most advanced and context-driven cloud DLP, covering over 1,800+ different file types, leveraging over 3,000+ data identifiers, ML and deep learning, AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), convolutional neural-networks and groundbreaking trainable ML for data classification and much more
  • Best-unified and most-automated platform aimed at making SaaS security management effortless and undemanding, thanks to shared risk intelligence across CASB inline, API and SSPM, a unified dashboard with deep visibility into users and privileges, natively unified policy framework, and ML-driven alert prioritization using risk correlation

“As a recognized leader in SASE and zero trust, Netskope provides a modern approach to SaaS security, including unprecedented capabilities that unite key SSE controls and collation of intelligence,” said John Martin, Chief Product Officer, Netskope. “Netskope One is the first converged platform that uses AI to keep pace with the SaaS and genAI app explosion, categorizing new apps and their risks faster, more granularly, and more accurately than any other solution in the market.”
