  • Enables users to protect Linux systems by applying and enforcing least privilege policies and just-in-time elevation
  • Latest update delivers a new, unified interface for protecting endpoints across Windows, Linux and Mac platforms
  • CyberArk (NASDAQ: CYBR), the global leader in Identity Security, today announced new CyberArk Endpoint Privilege Manager functionality that extends protection to Linux platforms. Now, security and IT professionals can easily enforce least privilege and implement foundational just-in-time security controls across Linux endpoints in any environment.

Linux is widely applicable to various types of operations – everything from smartphones to cloud computing – and runs 90% of all public cloud workloads. In a recent survey, 83.1% of developers said Linux is the platform they prefer to work on. It’s so popular that in 2021, Linux ran on 100% of the world’s 500 supercomputers.

However, many Linux administrators find it challenging to enforce least privilege policies on DevOps engineers or application owners that access Linux servers while maintaining least privilege controls on Linux machines without creating friction for end users. CyberArk Endpoint Privilege Manager for Linux is a SaaS solution that provides simple and easy configuration and enforcement of least privilege policy. Linux administrators benefit from capabilities that enable them to quickly build the right policy rules for their users and reduce the manual work typically required to maintain these policies.

Endpoint Privilege Manager for Linux can monitor and automatically detect privileged activity. It then helps administrators decide whether privileged access rights should be approved or blocked, and easily update the policy accordingly. Security teams and Linux administrators gain critical visibility and control over what users can run and execute on Linux systems. Additional capabilities include:

    • Standard sudo command syntax for smooth adoption
    • Sudo with password prompt or passwordless
    • Configurable policy audit reports for compliance and forensics
    • Rest APIs for policy automation and external system integration
    • Agent CLI for support and status monitoring
    • Upgrade or uninstall agents directly from the SaaS console

Endpoint Privilege Manager administrators can also now define and execute policies via a unified management console interface for protecting the organizations’ endpoints across Windows, Linux and Mac platforms.

“Endpoint privilege management solutions provide foundational security controls that are missing across a large number of organizations – opening them up to cybersecurity risk. These controls are especially important as businesses continue to prioritize digital transformation and mature and accelerate cloud adoption,” said Barak Feldman, senior vice president, CyberArk. “Endpoint Privilege Manager for Linux extends flexible, robust and scalable least privilege capabilities of the CyberArk Identity Security Platform over Linux endpoints – workstations and especially servers – while delivering just in time controls and automation that lift the manual burden on Linux administrators.”

    Availability and Licensing

CyberArk Endpoint Privilege Manager for Linux is available now. Existing customers can leverage their existing Endpoint Privilege Manager SaaS tenants and expertise with no additional training or special licensing. New initiative will offer Cloudflare’s global edge network and security services at no cost to help connect local communities to the Internet

Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the security, performance, and reliability company helping to build a better Internet, today announced a new initiative to improve Internet access for underserved communities around the world. Through Project Pangea, eligible local communities can use Cloudflare’s performance and security services–for free–to more reliably and securely connect to the global Internet without paying the high costs of bandwidth. By providing its security and network services, Cloudflare is helping local groups or nonprofits that build their own telecom infrastructure find a free and sustainable way to connect people who rely on the Internet for everything from communication to education and economic development.

Nearly half of the world’s population has no access to the Internet, with many more limited to poor, expensive, and unreliable connectivity. Many communities rely on non-profits or form local groups to build their own networks by erecting Wi-Fi antennas or laying fiber optic cables. This allows them to build a network in a town that connects homes and businesses together, but it remains very expensive to connect that network to the Internet. Bandwidth is either unavailable or unaffordable because existing providers don’t have the economies of scale to provide it, or because regional policies and regulations favor urban markets. The problem is not limited to developing nations and exists across the globe. In the United States for example, 21 million people have no high-speed connection despite large levels of public investment and private infrastructure. Now, Cloudflare is offering a chance for communities to get the Internet experience they deserve–performant, reliable, and secure.

“Safe, reliable, and sustainable Internet access is a basic human right,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder & CEO of Cloudflare. “Unfortunately many communities are building their own infrastructure only to be blocked by high bandwidth costs. We want to help where we can–if they’ve already built the connecting roads, we want to offer our network as the safe, accessible highway to the global Internet.”

Cloudflare’s global network spans more than 200 cities in over 100 countries, and interconnects with over 9,500 networks globally, including major ISPs, cloud services, and enterprises. This allows Cloudflare to offer a secure, affordable way to expand access to the Internet that can grow with, and contribute to, the sustainability of these networks, as well as be ready for any new networks that launch. To participate in this initiative, network organizers can visit the Project Pangea website to view the technical requirements and to register interest.

With Project Pangea, community network organizers will be able to:

    • Find a free on-ramp to the Internet: Eligible communities can sign up for Project Pangea to get free, reliable, and high-quality connectivity without being left behind or overcharged by traditional ISPs.
    • Operate secure and performant networks for everyone: Not only does Project Pangea provide connectivity to communities, but also Cloudflare’s security tools to make networks resilient in the face of cyberattacks. With access to Cloudflare Network Interconnect, Magic Transit, and Magic Firewall, networks will be able to stay online and protect users while giving them a fast Internet experience.
    • Take advantage of Cloudflare’s global infrastructure footprint: Cloudflare’s global network spans more than 200 cities in over 100 countries, and interconnects with over 9,500 networks globally. This makes it one of the most reachable networks in the world, with communities able to connect to the data center that is closest to them, resulting in a faster and more stable connection.

    Project Pangea Participants

“As a community-owned wireless ISP based in rural South Africa, we advocate for digital equity and for Internet that is truly affordable,” said Sol Luca de Tena, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Zenzeleni Networks NPC. “To do this, we work with a range of partners to help make Community Networks become mechanisms for positive change. With Cloudflare’s Project Pangea, we see an opportunity to further improve how communities can gain affordable and secure connectivity to the Internet.”

“HUBS is a cooperative of community networks in Scotland with a goal of enabling reliable, fast Internet through affordable technical solutions. By connecting rural areas with Internet infrastructure and services, we can give people in those communities access to and representation on the Internet,” said Gordon Hughes, Executive Director of HUBS CIC. “Cloudflare’s Project Pangea will help make it easy for networks to ensure affordability and reliability for the community while also feeling at ease that they’re secure and protected.”

“As a group of activists for free community networks in Argentina, AlterMundi strives to help solve connectivity problems in populations neglected by the market,” said Nicolás Echániz, founder of AlterMundi. “Low costs and high performance are necessary for networks to help their communities thrive– which is one of the reasons we’re intrigued by the potential of Project Pangea could bring to bridging the connectivity divide that many areas face.”

“As the largest community network in the US, working with New Yorkers to close the digital divide, NYC Mesh is looking forward to collaborating with Cloudflare to better serve the communities we connect,” said Zachary Giles, Volunteer Network Admin at NYC Mesh.

“At guifi.net, we welcome the contribution of a leading company such as Cloudflare to the community networks ecosystem. Project Pangea addresses the recurrent blocking factor of Internet access in a meaningful manner (free for the small, at cost for the larger) from a privileged position,” said Ramon Roca, President of the Guifi.net Foundation. “Thus, we are convinced that this project can become a milestone in the history of community networks.”

    Industry Support

“Communities need connectivity to thrive and to connect to schools, to jobs, to opportunity, and to each other,” said Jane R. Coffin, Senior Vice President of Internet Growth at Internet Society, a global nonprofit organization that promotes the development and use of the Internet. “Since 2010, we’ve been working with partners around the world to scale community networks and to empower the people who need the Internet to also build it. This is why we’re excited to see how Cloudflare’s Project Pangea can help make these networks more secure and efficient–and ultimately contribute to a more open, globally connected, and secure Internet.”

“Access to the Internet is a fundamental requirement of life, and trustworthy and secure internet services are a vital pillar of Digital Trust,” said Daniel Dobrygowski, Head of Governance and Trust at the World Economic Forum. “From our work on the Internet for All initiative all the way through the new Edison Alliance, the World Economic Forum has expanded access to the Internet and spurred global cooperation on the public goods of cybersecurity, digital trust, and good governance of technology. We welcome Cloudflare’s Project Pangea as a valued contributor to a more equal, accessible, and trustworthy global Internet.”

“Access to the Internet should be open, accessible and affordable to all. Mozilla has long been committed to supporting communities across the world, particularly in rural areas, to bring people online,” said Alice Munyua, Director Africa Mradi at Mozilla. “Today, we are excited to see the launch of Cloudflare’s Project Pangea for the approach it is taking to help communities benefit from more affordable access to the global Internet backbone.”

“At the Association for Progressive Communications, we focus on creating an enabling environment for community networks, supporting those unconnected who want to connect themselves,” said Carlos Rey-Moreno, Co-Lead of the Local Networks initiative at APC. “One of the challenges the community network movement faces is the high costs for secure and reliable Internet–a roadblock that we believe Cloudflare is well positioned to help overcome.”

Appgate, the secure access company, today announced its participation in the Implementing a Zero Trust Architecture Project with the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in collaboration with other key industry partners. The goal of this project is to develop practical, interoperable approaches to designing and building Zero Trust architectures that align with the tenets and principles documented in NIST SP 800-207, Zero Trust Architecture.

The proposed example solution(s) will integrate commercial and open source products together that leverage cybersecurity standards and recommended practices to showcase the robust security features of a Zero Trust architecture applied to several common enterprise IT use cases. The example solutions will be shared publicly in a NIST Special Publication (SP) 1800 series document.

“Zero Trust is no longer some hypothetical construct representing a potential future state of cybersecurity – it’s become an urgent priority for public and private CISOs who are suffering today from the inadequacies of conventional perimeter-based network security models,” said Ned Miller, SVP and GM for Appgate Federal. “We are honored and excited to work with NCCoE alongside the other participating industry vendors and are confident that our years of applied experience building and deploying Zero Trust solutions in the real world will have an immediate and lasting impact on this important project.”

Since late 2018, NIST and NCCoE cybersecurity researchers have had the opportunity to work closely with the Federal Chief Information Officer (CIO) Council, federal agencies, and industry to address the challenges and opportunities for implementing Zero Trust architectures across U.S. government networks. This work resulted in publication of NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-207, Zero Trust Architecture. The NCCoE project builds on this body of knowledge and aims to build out and document an example Zero Trust architecture that aligns to the concepts and principles in NIST SP 800-207 as well as by using commercially available products.

Appgate was recently named as a Zero Trust Leader in The Forrester Wave™ Zero Trust eXtended Ecosystem Providers, Q3 2020.

CSC, a world leader in business, legal, tax, and domain security, today announced through their Digital Brand Services (DBS) division a strategic alliance with SecurityScorecard, the global leader in security ratings, to provide domain security insights for evaluating enterprise cyber risk to SecurityScorecard platform users. The most damaging attacks today—ransomware, business email compromise (BEC), impersonation fraud, and network breaches—start with phishing attacks that often leverage a compromised domain name via a domain registrar breach, a fraudulent lookalike domain, email header spoofing, or an email account take over. Many of the largest companies in the world still lack basic domain security, making them prime targets for bad actors.

“The root cause of the most serious cyber threats companies face today is often an enabling attack on the domains or DNS that give bad actors a launch pad to conduct a larger attack,” says Mark Calandra, president of CSC’s Digital Brand Services division. “As the most security conscious, enterprise-class domain registrar, CSC is excited to partner with SecurityScorecard—allowing SecurityScorecard to bethe first to integrate domain security insights into its platform—giving companies a more meaningful way to mitigate against supplier cyber threats. This also helps companies better understand the level of risk they’re exposed to when working with a consumer-grade domain registrar.”

“We are excited to partner with an enterprise-class domain registrar like CSC to educate companies that are using consumer-grade registrars of a better, more effective security approach,” said Aleksandr Yampolskiy, CEO at SecurityScorecard. “By taking very sensible, proactive measures to protect against domain and DNS attacks, we are confident organizations and insurers can better pinpoint potential cyber risks and breaches before they occur.”

In the initial integration via the SecurityScorecard platform, CSC is providing users with visibility into the class of domain registrar they’re using, enabling them to better manage the risk related to their domain name portfolio. This information will help educate companies about the level of advanced security needed to protect against domain and DNS security threats today. Customers from both organizations can learn more and take advantage of the integration at securityscorecard.pathfactory.com/l/csc.

Falcon was able to detect malicious behavior with high accuracy and also quarantine Mac malware, instantly protecting endpoints. Falcon’s proven track record in third-party testing such as this directly speaks to Falcon’s ability to autonomously protect Mac endpoints via a single intelligent agent that uses powerful machine learning and behavior-based malware threat detection.

Throughout the test, Falcon technology went far beyond traditional signature-based detection to offer layered, powerful remediation capabilities against new and unknown malware for Mac. Falcon prevented attacks during pre-execution and stopped new and polymorphic malware, which is often missed by legacy solutions. Additionally, Falcon was able to swiftly distinguish between malware and legitimate software – a critical part of the AV-Comparatives Malware Protection Test and key differentiator for Falcon. Today, many endpoint security solutions can incorrectly identify clean applications as malicious, causing disruptions to the end-user, which negatively impacts business operations. False alarms such as this can be extremely costly for organizations. CrowdStrike was able to demonstrate not only out-of-the box detection but comprehensive, accurate visibility through on-sensor machine learning to help empower security teams to avoid false positives.

“Achieving a fourth consecutive award from AV-Comparatives is a testament to CrowdStrike’s continued leadership in delivering machine learning-enabled, comprehensive endpoint security, and our steadfast commitment to independent third-party testing from leading organizations such as AV-Comparatives. We strongly believe that no other technology in today’s market can stop threats and provide comprehensive visibility like Falcon can, and these types of comprehensive tests continue to validate the power of the cloud to accurately detect and block malicious activity,” said Michael Sentonas, chief technology officer, CrowdStrike.

The AV-Comparatives Mac Security Test and Review 2021 took place in June 2021 and evaluated the efficacy of 10 endpoint security products for Mac when tested against 538 malicious samples. Testing scenarios aimed to assess the full breadth of detection and protection capabilities against sophisticated malware, specifically recent and representative for macOS.

Partnership aims to help protect crucial sensitive data and information for Visa Business cardholders in North America and EMEA

McAfee Corp. (Nasdaq: MCFE) – McAfee today announced a new partnership with Visa that enables Visa financial institution partners in North America and EMEA to offer award-winning internet security to Visa Business cardholders. Visa Business cardholders can save up to 40% on a two-year subscription on comprehensive McAfee solutions that protect sensitive data via email, provide web and firewall protection, offer mobile VPN, and safeguard devices from malware and the latest online threats.

In an increasingly digitized world, small businesses find themselves a key target of hackers, with almost a third of the data breaches in 2020 involving small businesses according to Verizon Business 2020 Data Breach Investigations Report. Due to a lack of resources from a budgetary and staffing perspective, SMB owners are not always able to protect themselves and their customers from the increase in online risks. The rise in threats underscores the need for SMBs to ensure their digital assets are protected from the latest threats facing organizations today.

“As small business owners rely more heavily on their digital infrastructure it’s never been more important to ensure that the proper protections have been implemented,” said Pedro Gutierrez, SVP Global Consumer Sales & Operations at McAfee. “We are proud to partner with Visa to offer solutions to their Visa Business cardholders and look forward to helping these organizations stay secure so they can focus on what matters most to their business.”

The McAfee security solution will provide protection for varying number of PCs, Macs, iOS and Android devices to fit specific business size and needs. As an upgraded offer, Visa Infinite Business cardholders in the U.S. can save up to 63% and receive access to flexible licensing options, including a one-year subscription to McAfee® Total Protection for 5/10/25 devices with varying levels of TechMaster call support. The remainder of the U.S. and Canada cardholders, as well as EMEA, have access to two-year licensing options for McAfee Total Protection for 5/10/25 devices.

“Protecting the top line from fraud helps improve the bottom line for small businesses,” said Gloria Colgan, global head of card products and platforms, Visa Business Solutions. “With Visa’s Payment Fraud Disruption capabilities inherently protecting all Visa Business cardholders behind the scenes, offering McAfee Total Protection provides an additional layer of security that can help further prevent fraud, which can have an outsized impact on small businesses.”

The security offerings are now available to eligible cardholders in North America (U.S. and Canada) and EMEA (England, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Finland, Poland, and Czech Republic). For more information about McAfee consumer security products, please visit http://mcafee.com/.

Company Promotes Tom Gibson and Andy McDonald Based on Outstanding Contributions to the Award-Winning Customer Success Team

Adaptiva, a leading, global provider of endpoint management and security solutions for enterprise customers, today announced two key hires. Former Changepoint Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Sonia Martinez joins Adaptiva as chief marketing officer, while Vern LeBlanc comes to Adaptiva from TINYpulse to lead the information security team. Additionally, Adaptiva announced that it has promoted two vital members of its customer success team: Tom Gibson is now senior director, customer success, and Andy McDonald has been named director, customer success (EMEA).

“Enterprise needs have changed dramatically since the onset of the pandemic, and Adaptiva has led the way forward with game-changing endpoint management and security solutions. With Sonia’s deep expertise in automation and cloud-based services, she is the right fit to drive our marketing efforts forward,” said Deepak Kumar, founder and CEO of Adaptiva. “On top of this, our infrastructure has never been more secure, even amid massive growth, than with Vern in charge of our data centers, digital assets and IP.”

Martinez brings an extensive track record of developing high-performance B2B marketing teams in enterprise and SaaS technology markets. She has worked in both mid-size companies and large enterprises across her marketing career, which spans more than two decades.

Most recently, Martinez served as vice president of worldwide marketing at Changepoint, where she was responsible for rebuilding the company’s go-to-market strategy. She redefined product positioning, messaging and packaging across three disparate organizations including CRM systems and processes. Her work resulted in product leadership positions within Gartner’s Magic Quadrant and the successful acquisition of Changepoint by Planview earlier this year. Martinez has also held senior marketing leadership positions with Avaya, K2, Oracle, Skytap, and UBM Technology.

LeBlanc most recently served as IT manager in charge of IT governance and business at TINYpulse, where he developed a comprehensive information security management system (ISMS) foundation and drove the company’s security certification efforts. He was instrumental in providing the strategic security framework tailored to meet the company’s regulatory compliance needs. He was also responsible for protecting TINYpulse’s computers, networks and data against threats such as security breaches, viruses and cyberattacks. Additionally, LeBlanc has spent the last 22 years in IT security leadership posts for Alexonet and Bioanalytical Systems.

“Adaptiva has built one of the most innovative and exciting companies in the security space, and the company’s latest products — OneSite Cloud, Endpoint Health and Evolve VM — have never been needed more,” said Martinez. “I am thrilled to be part of this talented team.”

In addition, Adaptiva promoted Tom Gibson and Andy McDonald from within to assume greater leadership responsibilities on the customer success team. Gibson, formerly a senior solutions architect at Adaptiva with more than 30 years of IT experience overall, becomes the worldwide leader of customer success, while McDonald, also formerly a senior solutions architect, with more than 15 years of experience at companies including Barclays, HSBC, HFC Bank, and Nestle Waters, is responsible for the customer success team outside of North America. The appointments are notable as Adaptiva’s customer success team has maintained a 100% satisfaction rating from customers for 33 consecutive months for its superior level of service. The team is known for its outstanding product support and rapid response times, returning customer inquiries within an average of just 18 minutes.

“Adaptiva’s success to date is largely attributable to Tom and Andy’s contributions,” noted Kumar. “We can make the best products in the world, but the customer success team is on the front lines, teaching people how to use them and all that they are capable of so that enterprises maximize their investment. Both Tom and Andy have been extraordinary in this regard, and we are delighted to reward their respective work with these well-earned promotions.”
