Masimo (NASDAQ: MASI), a leading global provider of medical technology and hospital automation solutions, and Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit academic medical center, announced today the launch of a new partnership centered around hospital-based remote patient monitoring (RPM), including TeleCritical Care. This will include the integration of Cleveland Clinic’s critical care (eHospital) and non-critical care (eCMU) central patient monitoring platforms with the Masimo Hospital Automation™ platform. The goal is to provide tools for clinicians that offer enhanced situational awareness and clinical decision-support for hospitalized patients, including the critically ill.

The collaboration will include joint development initiatives on predictive analytics and AI-based algorithms for improving cardiac care.

Cleveland Clinic’s existing critical care and non-critical care central monitoring platform provides continuous monitoring of a range of vital signs, including ECG, for both ICU and non-ICU patients at more than a 2,000-bed capacity. Its hospital-based RPM programs serve 11 hospitals, providing intensivist monitoring, 24/7 critical care nursing, and patient management. Cleveland Clinic’s programs1 have reduced patient mortality and reduced ICU length of stay while increasing caregiver satisfaction.2 With this partnership, Masimo and Cleveland Clinic hope to bring these innovations and patient benefits to other healthcare systems in the future. The aim of the enhanced program is to increase awareness and facilitate triage with proactive responses to changes in a patient’s condition. This improves patient care and saves lives by ensuring the highest risk patients are identified and receive timely treatment while maintaining quality of care for all patients.1,2

The Masimo Hospital Automation platform offers technologies designed to help clinicians improve patient care at the bedside, across the care continuum. Masimo Hospital Automation includes monitoring and wearable technologies, high-fidelity medical device integration, system-wide applications for surveillance and data visualization, and novel AI capabilities that support intelligent patient prioritization and help clinicians identify changes in patients’ condition more efficiently.

These decision-support tools are integrated into the Masimo Hospital Automation platform and utilize the Halo engine, technology which identifies deterioration patterns in multiple physiological parameters simultaneously, in real time. The Halo tools include Halo ION®, a comprehensive, scalable, and customizable continuous early warning score to help streamline patient assessment and clinical workflows. As part of their work together, Masimo and Cleveland Clinic are partnering to jointly develop an additional Halo-based decision-support tool to support clinicians with earlier detection of adverse events – ultimately helping them manage and improve patient outcomes more effectively, for low-, mid-, and high-acuity patients.

“We see great opportunities to enhance remote care, particularly for critically ill individuals,” said Chiedozie Udeh, M.D., Medical Director of ICU Operations at Cleveland Clinic. “By combining our technical and clinical expertise, we aim to improve situational awareness for clinicians and continue to improve outcomes for patients.”

Thomas Callahan, M.D., Staff Cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute, and principal investigator for the AI study, added, “We look forward to exploring the effects of next-gen inpatient wearables, and as the capabilities of AI continue to advance, studying the potential impact on the care of cardiac patients, including those undergoing cardiac surgery.”

Joe Kiani, Founder and CEO of Masimo, said, “We are truly honored to have the opportunity to partner with Cleveland Clinic to advance patient care. By harnessing Masimo’s AI-powered decision support tools, automation solutions, and monitoring devices, alongside Cleveland Clinic’s vast clinical expertise and dedication to providing the highest quality, most innovative care, our partnership has the potential to significantly ease staff shortages, better standardize care, and promote intensivist- and specialist-led care. Ultimately, we will make significant strides in shifting from reactive to predictive and proactive care – improving patient outcomes, safety, and quality of care across the board.”

Dr. Chiedozie Udeh has a conflict of interest with Cleveland Clinic’s eHospital platform and may benefit from commercialization of eHospital technology developed by the Company. These financial interests are being managed by Cleveland Clinic and are within permissible limits established by the Institutional Conflicts of Interest Policy. eHospital is not a Masimo product.

Prestigious International Annual Awards Program Recognizes Standout Digital Health & Medical Technology Products and Companies

b.well Connected Health, the company powering platform-enabled healthcare ecosystems, today announced that it has been selected as winner of the “Patient Engagement Innovation Award” in the 8th annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by MedTech Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies and products in the global digital health and medical technology market.

The b.well Connected Health platform is a Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR)-based solution that connects healthcare ecosystems – places where all health data, solutions and services are unified around consumers and their families. The company partners with healthcare organizations so they can build their own ecosystems and deliver unprecedented convenience via unified, on-demand consumer health experiences.

b.well’s solution enables healthcare organizations to freely exchange data with health systems, pharmacies, labs, payers, and patients who have consented to share their information. This is powered by b.well’s 60,000 live, consumer-mediated data connections, which include payer and provider application programming interfaces (APIs), health information networks (HINs), connected devices and wearables, labs, pharmacies, and more. By leveraging this data, b.well unlocks personalization and business value by alleviating administrative burden, reducing fragmentation, and improving quality measures and risk adjustment.

With a white-labeled application and integration into existing investments, b.well helps healthcare organizations  differentiate in the market while providing their consumers with longitudinal health records; receive proactive, personalized health insights; and conveniently shop and access care for themselves and their families. For example, b.well recently partnered with Samsung Health to give millions of people control over their health data, access to next-best actions to manage their health, and a direct connection to relevant in-person, digital, and virtual providers — all through an app on Galaxy smartphones.

As a result, organizations like Samsung and those within its ecosystem will be better able to respond to competitive, regulatory, and financial pressures; connect with consumers in new ways; and offer the connected healthcare experiences consumers and their families deserve.

“We’re on a mission to solve healthcare’s fragmentation problem, and we’re committed to empowering individuals and enhancing the overall healthcare experience by prioritizing the importance of interoperability in patient care,” said Kristen Valdes, CEO and Founder of b.well Connected Health. “The ‘Patient Engagement Innovation Award’ from MedTech Breakthrough is an honor that validates our determination to create a solution to power seamless personal, and accessible, modernized consumer healthcare experiences that can compete in the connected healthcare ecosystems of tomorrow.”

Leveraging Xealth’s digital health platform and API, Stel brings secure monitoring device program live from underserved populations direct to their care teams, right in their EHR workflow

Xealth, the leader in enabling digital health at scale, today announced that Stel Life, a leader in health monitoring device connectivity, has connected with Xealth’s digital health platform to bring vitals data from a patient’s device into the care team’s workflow faster and with added privacy, maintaining a no-protected health information (PHI) integration between Xealth and Stel.

Enrolling the patients is the first step in any remote patient monitoring (RPM) program, but the data needs to be easily accessible by researchers and care teams. Xealth’s integration into the EHR brings the Stel program into clinical workflows, ensuring that providers have instant access to important health data. Additionally, as an extra privacy measure, Stel’s integration with Xealth is implemented without health systems sharing PHI with Stel.

“We’re privileged to support innovative health systems in evolving care to the home and improving the overall health of the communities they serve,” said Sid Kandan, CEO of Stel Life. “We are excited to deploy Stel through the Xealth digital health platform, as not only does Xealth help power provider workflows, but also maintains our unidentified data design. We don’t need to know exactly who the patient is, but trust Xealth to get data to records.”

Stel Life seamlessly and securely connects wireless health devices to care teams using cellular networks that function even in areas with low broadband access. Stel Life’s ecosystem allows health systems to standardize their device connectivity across hundreds of devices, including scales, blood pressure cuffs, glucometers, continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), wearables, and more. This device data surfaces patient trends via Xealth’s digital health platform, enhances a hospital’s ability to monitor patients outside of the hospital, enabling tailored care plans, quicker interventions and better outcomes.

“We simplify digital access by improving access to care, both for patients and the providers responsible for their care,” said Mike McSherry, CEO of Xealth. “The Stel Hub works without patients needing smartphones or Wi-Fi, connecting care to track behavior and outcomes. We are excited to partner with Stel to make monitoring simpler and more secure.”

Providing Patients with Novel Concierge-Level Experience in Specialty Pharmacy

Gentry Health Services and Pleio, Inc. announce their partnership aimed at redefining the landscape of patient experience in specialty pharmacy. The two companies have launched a program to provide peer-to-patient support as patients initiate specialty medication therapy.

Gentry Health Services, with its commitment to improving clinical outcomes for patients with the most complex disease states, has one primary focus: taking care of the patient. “We recognize the difficulties for patients in navigating the process of starting a specialty medication, especially for the first time.  Incorporating emotional awareness into understanding the patient’s needs lowers the barriers to successfully initiating therapy for the patient,” remarked Nimesh Patel, Chief Operating Officer at Gentry Health Services. “Our partnership with Pleio provides a wraparound patient support program to complement Gentry Health Services’ clinical care team.”

In early 2023, the American Medical Association identified that five out of the top eight reasons leading to non-adherence are due to emotional barriers.1 Helping patients navigate the first 100-days of therapy with a human touch to overcome these emotional barriers is critical to enhancing clinical outcomes and elevating the patient experience.

Pleio offers patients a human-first connection, extending its GoodStart™ Program in partnership with Gentry Health Services to address patients’ emotional needs as they onboard onto treatment, building trust and confidence as they begin their healthcare journey. Pleio’s GoodStart™ program bridges a gap that exists in patient engagement by introducing pharma-sponsored resources for patients as they interact with specialty pharmacies.

“Pleio is seamlessly embedded into Gentry’s process to ensure every patient receives personalized, compassionate care,” said Mark Gregory, Chief Pharmacy Officer at Pleio. “We’ve worked together to design an elevated experience, so each patient feels motivated, appreciated, and heard.”

The partnership creates continued connectivity with patients, reduces interruptions in therapy, and complements Gentry Health Services’ clinical care team, which extends support to patients by providing information and education to ease overwhelming feelings. As Gentry Health Services and Pleio engage with patients, they collect data to measure patient engagement, satisfaction, adherence lift, and operating efficiencies.

Connect with both Gentry Health and Pleio at Asembia AXS24 in Las Vegas to learn more about this program.

Program allows CipherHealth’s customers to deliver better patient outcomes and experiences while reducing staff workloads

CipherHealth, a leader in patient engagement technology and communications solutions, today announced the availability of a Medication Affordability & Adherence Program to increase access to life-saving medications and improve adherence for patients. With this latest program, CipherHealth continues to pave the way in digital healthcare by including access to medication affordability options as a seamless part of outreach to patients.

When patients fail to adhere to medication plans due to costs—not filling prescriptions, delaying fills, or skipping or reducing doses—there are serious downstream consequences for individuals and population health. In fact, 67 percent of patients cite costs as the reason for not filling prescriptions and nonadherence to prescribed treatment is thought to cause at least 100,000 preventable deaths and $100 billion in preventable medical costs per year.

Underscoring the importance of medication affordability to the nation’s largest and most innovative healthcare organizations, CipherHealth is undertaking the initiative in partnership with leading health systems including Community Health Network and Prisma Health. Their leadership in providing much-needed support for patients highlights the need for additional patient-centered initiatives that can fundamentally change lives.

“Addressing medication affordability is crucial to driving down the cost of healthcare and improving outcomes,” said Dr. Jonathan Gleason, Executive Vice President, Chief Clinical Officer at Prisma Health. “CipherHealth’s program provides an innovative solution to a major barrier that prevents many patients from adhering to their prescribed treatment plans.”

Nonadherence due to prescription drug costs also leads to higher mortality rates for patients with chronic illnesses. All of this underlines how critical it is to find ways to make medications more accessible for patients so they can recover, stay healthy and avoid rehospitalization.

“We are committed to exploring new ways to enhance the patient experience and make quality care more accessible,” said Dr. Patrick McGill, Executive Vice President, Chief Transformation Officer at Community Health Network. “Initiatives like this have great potential to positively impact both medication adherence and overall population health.”

CipherHealth’s Medication Affordability & Adherence Program can be offered to patients following a healthcare event, sent via CipherOutreach. Patients are connected via SMS with the best savings programs personalized for them based on their prescribed medications, insurance and pharmacy of choice. These benefits can then be applied to a patient’s medication by showing the pharmacist the instructions provided to the patient via CipherHealth’s outreach. The program can be used at over 70,000 pharmacies across the country.

“Prescription drug prices in the US are higher than in any other industrialized nation in the world. Many patients, despite having health insurance, are still unable to afford their medications,” said CipherHealth Chief Executive Officer Jake Pyles. “With this new program, CipherHealth is able to help reduce these medical costs and give patients the medication they need at a price they can afford.”
