Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, today announced the appointment of a new Chief Information Officer (CIO) and leadership changes in two of its major practices, Applications, Data and AI and Cloud. 

Kim Basile has been named Kyndryl’s new CIO, succeeding Michael Bradshaw, who is assuming leadership of the company’s Applications, Data and AI practice. Additionally, Nicolas Sekkaki has been named the Practice Leader for Kyndryl’s Cloud practice.

As Kyndryl’s new CIO, Kim will be responsible for building upon the technology foundation that Kyndryl’s CIO team has developed over the past two years. She will also focus on driving continuous improvement and enhancing the employee experience. Kim’s career experience includes positions of increasing responsibility at Lockheed Martin, Leidos and Vanguard, prior to joining Kyndryl.

In his role as Senior Vice President and Global Practice Leader for Applications, Data and AI, Michael will work in close partnership with Kyndryl Consult, our strategic alliance partners and our other practices, to prioritize and focus on helping customers modernize their complex technology environments and implement AI. He most recently served as Kyndryl’s Chief Information Officer and prior to that held senior leadership positions at NBCUniversal Media, Lockheed Martin and IBM.

As Senior Vice President and Global Practice Leader for Cloud, Nicolas will help support Kyndryl’s customers as they seize opportunities to modernize and transform with Cloud. He most recently served as Kyndryl’s Global Practice Leader for Applications, Data and AI. Prior to Kyndryl, he held several leadership roles at CMA CGM, IBM and SAP.

Report examines key drivers impacting the IT channel and reseller market as partners support SMBs on their digital agility journeys by adopting critical technologies to succeed in the digital-first economy.

A new study from Sage, the leader in accounting, financial, HR, and payroll technology for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), reveals the evolving role of technology channel and reseller partners in the U.S. and Canada. The study indicates a shift from point solutions providers and integrators to strategic advisors for SMBs, unlocking significant growth opportunities and paving the way for greater digital agility.

The report, ‘Small and medium-sized business demand for digital advisory services fuels IT channel growth’, surveyed 2,800 technology channel decision-makers globally, including in the U.S. and Canada, to better understand the key drivers impacting the IT channel and reseller market today.

The research highlights that the majority of technology resellers in the U.S. (59%) and Canada (52%) have shifted their focus toward providing strategic advice and services, aiming to improve SMBs’ ability to swiftly adapt to market shifts, new technological breakthroughs and evolving customer demands.

The report found that almost three-quarters of SMBs in the U.S. (73%) and Canada (74%) see investing in digital agility as a high priority, believing it will drive business growth (30%), followed by enhance competitiveness in the U.S. (25%), and increase efficiency in Canada (26%).

“These findings mark a significant shift within the channel industry. The move toward more personalized solutions and stronger customer relationships is revolutionizing our support for SMBs,” says Sippora Veen, VP Global Partner Marketing at Sage. “With the adoption of advanced technologies like AI, and a commitment to building skills, we are better positioned to help SMBs face challenges and thrive in the digital era. This collaboration is essential for fostering innovation and mutual growth.”

Key findings include:

  • Shift to Advisory Roles: U.S. and Canadian channel leaders are split on what is driving the shift to advisory roles with U.S. leaders citing the use of technology and data analytics for personalized solutions (59%), increased competition in the market requiring differentiation and value-added services (57%) and desire to build stronger customer relationships (55%). In Canada, leaders attribute the shift to the need to keep up with shifting customer demands (56%) and building stronger customer relationships (53%).
  • Digital Agility of SMBs: Almost two-thirds of Canadian SMBs (64%) and half of SMBs (51%) in the U.S. are recognized as ‘fairly digitally agile’ by channel leaders, highlighting their quick adoption of technologies that enhance efficiency and customer experience. However, only 39% of U.S. and 28% of Canadian partners feel SMBs are adequately prepared for future disruptions. Continuous investment in digital tools and training, supported by channel partners, is essential for maximizing the benefits of a digital-first approach.
  • Challenges in Driving Digital Agility: The report identifies the main obstacle preventing channel partners from effectively supporting SMBs as the complexity of technology and integration processes. In the U.S., channel partners face significant challenges in providing advisory services, primarily due to keeping up with evolving technology and balancing priorities (both at 48%), along with SMB resistance to advisory services (45%). Similarly, in Canada, nearly half of the channel partners (47%) cite the complexity of technology and integration processes as the top hindrance to supporting SMBs’ digital agility journey.
  • Adoption of Innovative Technologies: The majority of U.S. channel partners are focused on driving the adoption of innovative technologies (59%), while 52% of Canadian resellers are prioritizing offering strategic advice and solutions. This is to ensure that SMBs not only access but effectively utilize technology to enhance responsiveness and competitive edge in a rapidly changing market.
  • Critical Technologies: Channel leaders in both Canada (62%) and the U.S. (56%) believe cybersecurity solutions are the most instrumental in fostering digital agility. AI and automation followed closely, with 58% in Canada and 56% in the U.S. finding these as the second most critical technologies. Focusing on these areas can enhance SMB efficiency, and security.

Sage’s research underscores the importance of deepening collaboration between IT resellers and SMBs to fully harness new technologies and enhance resilience against market changes. By focusing on areas like cybersecurity, digital transformation, and operational efficiency, IT resellers can boost their growth while helping SMBs successfully navigate these challenges.

New Leadership Compass report examines how 24 leading vendors are addressing CIAM; it marks the third consecutive report naming WSO2 as an overall leader and product leader

WSO2, the leader in digital transformation technology, today announced that it has been named an overall leader, product leader, innovation leader, and market leader in the KuppingerCole Analysts’ 2024 CIAM Platforms Leadership Compass report published on June 3, 2024. The report is based on KuppingerCole’s evaluation of 24 leading vendors in the consumer identity and access management (CIAM) market, also known as customer IAM. Since the previous CIAM Platforms Leadership Compass was published in 2022, the range of use cases for CIAM has notably expanded from business-to-consumer (B2C) to a range of business-to-business (B2B) models. 

According to the 2024 KuppingerCole report, “Historically, the “C” in CIAM was generally assumed to stand for consumers. CIAM first evolved to meet the demands that consumer-facing applications have that are functionally different from workforce/enterprise IAM. These are still the largest types of use cases that CIAM solutions cater to. However, CIAM systems have been adapting to B2B customer scenarios as well. Some vendors report that the B2B CIAM segment is growing faster than pure B2C implementations. Moreover, with the many organizations shifting to the Identity Fabrics model, it is necessary that CIAM solutions address both B2B and B2C use cases equally well.”

Evaluating WSO2’s CIAM Capabilities
The 2022 CIAM Platforms Leadership Compass report evaluated WSO2’s suite of solutions for IAM/CIAM, including WSO2 Identity Server open-source software, WSO2 Private Identity Cloud single-tenant SaaS solution, and the Asgardeo identity as a service (IDaaS). The report awarded WSO2 the highest ranking, “strong positive,” in four of five categories: security, deployment, interoperability, and usability, as well as a “positive” ranking in the functionality category. WSO2’s leadership across the product, innovation and market categories resulted in the company being named an overall leader in the report. 

In evaluating WSO2, KuppingerCole Lead Analyst John Tolbert notes in the report. “Their solutions are designed for developers and as such are very extensible. Any organization that needs a modern, dev-centric CIAM should have WSO2 on their shortlist.”

MEF Standards-based certification program offers comprehensive protection for secure digital transformation and drives SASE adoption

MEF, a global industry association of network, cloud, security, and technology providers accelerating enterprise digital transformation, today released “State of the Industry Report: SASE – Validating Cyber Defense in an Era of Unprecedented Threats,” a comprehensive report that explores multiple factors dramatically increasing the risk of major cyberattacks worldwide. These ever-expanding threats are rapidly outpacing the ability of governments, organizations, and cybersecurity professionals to manage them. The report explains how enterprise networking and cybersecurity decisionmakers can utilize MEF standards-based SASE certification to choose the best solutions with validated cyber defense effectiveness and application performance.      

According to the report, many organizations are responding to today’s high-risk threat environment by prioritizing investment in SASE, a cloud-based cybersecurity model, to advance secure digital transformation. SASE solutions protect users, devices, and applications at scale regardless of their location, combining network connectivity via SD-WAN, cloud-based security including Zero Trust (ZT) and Security Service Edge (SSE), and subscriber policies, to provide a high level of application performance and a tightly integrated set of security capabilities.

Key findings include:

  • Industry Collaboration Essential: Stronger collaboration to develop effective, standardized and scalable cybersecurity solutions to protect critical infrastructure is essential. The SASE market is a logical focal point for collaboration.
  • Increased Investments: Global spending on cybersecurity, the top area of technology investment in 2024, is expected to increase at double-digit rates. According to Gartner, nearly 40% of CIO’s will or plan to deploy SASE solutions by mid-2025.
  • MEF Standards and Certification Drive Adoption: SASE industry standards and certification programs like MEF’s are crucial for ensuring consistent terminology, interoperability, and validated security effectiveness of SASE solutions, building trust, and accelerating adoption.

Benefits of Standards-Based SASE Certification
The MEF SASE certification program detailed in the report represents the latest major development in a decade-long networking transformation, emphasizing adoption, standardization, and certification of SD-WAN, SASE, ZT, SSE, and Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) solutions. This effort aims to align stakeholders on common terminology, instill confidence in services and technologies, enhance industry efficiency, and accelerate SASE adoption and market growth. MEF SASE certification comprises three individual certification programs for SD-WAN, ZT, and SSE. Upon achieving all three separate certifications, a final SASE certification is issued.
